New; His Holiness the Dalai Lama
11 X 17 Hand Signed and Numbered by Karl.
With all my admiration and respect. The Dalai Lamas are the earthly manifestations of Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. It is also a title given by the Tibetan People to the foremost spiritual leader of the Gelug or "Yellow Hat" school of Tibetan Buddhism. Bodhisattvas are realized beings, inspired by the wish to attain complete enlightenment, who have vowed to be reborn in this world to help all living beings attain it before themselves.
"May I be a protector to those without protection,
A leader for those who journey,
And a boat, a bridge, a passage for those desiring the further shore.
May the pain of every living creature be completely cleared away.
May I be the doctor and the medicine
And may I be the nurse for all sick beings in the world
Until everyone is healed."
By Shantideva (a monk and scholar late 7th to early 8th centuries)
Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life
There are four Bodhisattva vows;
Beings are numberless, I vow to save them
Desires are inexhaustible, I vow to end them
Dharma gates are boundless, I vow to enter them
Buddha's way is unsurpassable, I vow to become it.
